The hostport interface provides the control messaging support between the DSP and the MCU.It is responsible for terminating the host message protocol and providing appropriate control parameters to the application code and operating system based on the received message. The transmit/receive data is directly transferred with system memory under the management of the host, by using the internal DMA controller. DMA Controller:
Description,
The ETRAX 100 DMA provides a high data transfer rate to and from the internal peripheral interfaces, or from one location in the external memory to another. The DMA consists of ten DMA channels, five in each direction. The ten DMA channels are served by a DMA controller, which takes care of the data flow between the channels and the external memory.

Is used for this purpose.
