Project#2 3G-UMTS Dual Mode Protocol stack
Duration: Jan 2004 – April 2007
Organisation : Sasken Communication Technologies,Bangalore,India
Client: NXP(Formerly Philips), Le Mans, France
Description: Dual Mode 3G- AS Protocol is UE side (User Equipment or mobile side) protocol that supports both GSM and 3G RAT (Radio Access Technology).
Key feature of Dual mode 3G-AS stack includes:
• Supports both 3G and GSM RAT.
• Support for Inter-RAT cell selection, reselection, cell change order and handover.
• Enables service provider to upgrade to 3G, without discarding existing GSM infrastructure.
• Support for higher data rates, of up to 384Kbps
• Low battery consumption.
Stack was written in C language, developed on Linux and ported on
RTKe OS(Philips proprietary RTOS)
Responsibility: Senior Software Engineer
• Responsible for coordinating and interacting with our customers , NXP and resolving technical and other issues arising out of the project and facilitating the smooth flow of the project. Also responsible for fixing bugs in DCFE, L2 module and bi-weekly delivery of the product and coordinating the release activities with the team in Le Mans, France and with L1 team in Nurenburg,Germany.Got an opportunity to work with people of different culture and
in a multi site environment.
• Closely worked with the Integration team in France during
the critical phase of integration of the AS-3G stack with
Philips 2G and Philips NAS.
• Worked in Agilent and CMU setup for testing loop back features and also worked in Anite, Rohde and Schwarz,
and Ericsson Node B during GCF conformance testing
(ETSI cases).Have hands on experience on Trace32
debugger and very good exposure in analyzing traces,
zeroing in on the problem and giving fixes, patches.
• Designed, implemented and tested the compressed mode feature for doing Inter-RAT and Inter Frequency measurements, used during Handover procedures.
Written sufficient UT cases to test the functionality of the
compressed mode code and also written AS-IT (Access Stratum-Integration Testing) to make sure the code is well
integrated in the stack and does not cause any problems.
And also it is tested in the MRHT(Multi RAT Host Tester)
with the 34.123 GCF cases which test the compressed mode
feature.
• Designed ,implemented and tested the Test loop Mode 2
feature in MAC layer. Test loop mode 2 is used for
calculating BLER(Block Error Rate),Blind Transport
Format Detection(BTFD).Have written sufficient UT,
and L2-IT to test the possible scenarios.
It is also tested with 34.109 GCF cases for Test loop mode 2.This implementation have given me to gain in-depth knowledge on Transport Format Combination(TFC) algorithm used in MAC layer to select
the transport blocks for sending data out of MAC.Also have
basic knowledge of HSDPA concepts and MAC-HS layer
design concepts.
• Designed and implemented Traffic Volume Measurements in MAC layer. TVM is used to control the data rates in UE by intimating the Node B regarding the amount of traffic that is currently in UE. Have very good understanding of Event triggered (4A and 4B) and Periodic measurements.
• Acquired good knowledge on the different functionalities of
RRC module(both Dedicated and Broadcast functionalities).
Analyzed and fixed the bugs in cellupdate,URA update,
Cell-reselection, Paging and Measurement functionalities
and have very good understanding of the basic concepts.
• Got acquainted with DDTS,a defect tracking tool for tracking bugs and worked extensively in clearcase tools during the delivery of the modules to our clients, also worked in Purify and e-Fence tools in Linux environment.
