The Field Test Engineer will perform field testing and support client's wireless network development and deployment activities. He/she will conduct field testing (including testing of network device, coverage, characterization and loading) and assist with deployment activities utilizing various test equipment (Client's RF and networking equipment, and third party equipment).
The responsibilities include:
participating in site planning and survey
maintaining base stations and network infrastructure
installing and configuring network elements in compliance with engineering guidelines (including the provisioning and configuration of routers, switches, site controllers, RF devices and Linux based base station equipment)
providing assistance to engineers with testing, troubleshooting and resolution of issues encountered during the installation, commissioning, and acceptance process of the development network assuming responsibility for multiple aspects of RF engineering (including RF coverage audits, performance optimization, interference measurement/tracking, wired/wireless backhaul, and general RF field troubleshooting)
assessing and analyzing test results, in close collaboration with the engineering team, to optimize network and propagation model
developing and documenting deployment procedures
traveling to/from locations and working outside (in all weather conditions to maintain and characterize the wireless network.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
experience in the deployment of RF communications network such as GSM, CDMA, and 802.11x)
experience in Ethernet, TCP/IP and related communications protocols in LAN and WAN environments
understanding of OSI Layer 2 (Data Link) and Layer 3 (Network) data communications
working knowledge of RF planning process and use of propagation tools
solid understanding of and hands-on experience with RF instrumentation and tools
onsite experience working with cell and/or WISP sites performing installation, verification and RF optimization
ability to meet aggressive deadlines with flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing environments
excellent communications, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
ability to travel as technology is deployed to other markets
Education/Training:
Technical Associates degree (a higher degree would be an asset)
3 to 5 years work experience in RF network design or deployment
