POSITION SUMMARY: Plan, manage and execute IOT, performance and feature testing for Garmin handsets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for field and lab based interoperability testing of 3G wireless platforms in multi-vendor environments
• Correctly interpret carrier IOT requirements in order to specify lab equipment and configure test beds.
• Generate IOT plans for Garmin software and hardware releases
• Define, develop and execute test cases to validate performance of handsets in real world operating conditions
• Develop IOT process documents specifying implementation, functionality, impact on interfaces
• Work with engineering teams to analyze and debug IOT issues.
• SME on test cases for features like HSDPA and 3G A-GPS
• Layer three (L3) testing of UEs (Field Trials and IOT) involving transceiver performance
• Structuring the test procedures for UE trials according to various technical specifications
• Stay abreast of technology changes and new requirements; interpret those that affect Garmin handsets
• Effectively manage and support multiple projects and priorities
• Preparing reports on the milestone test results
• Schedule flexibility required, in order to accommodate customer’s short notice request for testing
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, Electro-Optics or Physics from four-year college or university or equivalent education
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Hands-on experience with test tools and equipment e.g. Anite, Rohde & Schwarz, Racal and/or Agilent
• Call performance testing with 2G, 3G or 3.5G handsets, using mobile diagnostic monitors to verify RF and CAI (protocol) compliance and performance
• Conduct/coordinate drive testing of handsets
• Feature testing in lab and field (handoffs, handovers, etc.)
• Supporting field trials for regression testing of the new protocol builds
• Experience testing 2G and 3G handsets with BTSs from multiple vendors
• Conversant in UMTS, HSDPA, GPRS, EGPRS, GSM, A-GPS, WAP, MMS, SMS and WCDMA technologies
• Ability to understand and apply some of these standards (GCF, 3GPP, E-911, HAC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, SAR, UL, EN, IEC, CSA, FCC, CISPR, Industry Canada, ETSI, ITU, JASO, SAE, ACMA, NZS, ANATEL, ICASA) and directives (R&TTE, Battery, LVD, EMC, eMark) and environmental laws/directives such as Energy Star, RoHS, REACH, EuP and WEEE)
• Strong project management skills
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
• Highly motivated and self-directed
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Cellular carrier testing experience
• 5+ years of experience performing duties similar to the essential functions of this job description
• Certification or regulatory experience with 2G, 3G or 3.5G handsets
• Knowledge in worldwide regulations and certification schemes for rechargeable battery packs, NFC (near field communications), SRD’s (short range devices), consumer, marine or automotive electronics or wireless systems
• Certification of products with one of these technologies: DVB-H, DVB-SH.
• Experience with ESD, EMC, EMI or product safety testing with proven ability to review designs and offer suggestions for improvements
• 5+ years in electronics manufacturing, test or design environment
• Member of a team that put cost effective processes in place to support Green requirements
• Planning or managing the implementation for REACH, EUP, China RoHS or other environmental regulations
• Experience in working with regulatory and standards organizations
• China, Korea, Japan or Latin America approvals expertise
• Experience in writing compliance reports and declarations of conformity
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
