Summary of Position:
The Senior Manager of Wireless Device Certification will be responsible for managing all device certification and testing activities. Will manage certification vendors as well as device OEMs to ensure critical deadlines and deliverables are met. Will be responsible for creation and execution of test plans for device launches and lifecycle activities inclusive of device acceptance, break/fix remediation and documentation. Will work with the device project manager to communicate device launch status on a regular basis to management and functional teams. Candidate must understand the handset development and launch process with device OEMs and have had significant experience in managing mobile device launches. Experience working with 3rd party logistics providers is also required. This position will interface with vendor, partners and internal teams on a regular basis.
Position Responsibilities:
Communicates device development and launch statuses on a regular basis to management and stakeholders.
Manages device certification vendors to ensure device development, testing and deliverables meet defined timelines.
Works with Care and Training teams to ensure proper support documentation and training deliverables align with launch schedule.
Work with application development teams to coordinate and manage testing and certification activities.
Provides recommendations for operational efficiency and process improvements subject to management review in support of change.
Evaluates the impacts and risks of changes from multiple perspectives, assigns tasks that are necessary to reduce or eliminate those considerations, determines tentative implementation dates, and tracks results of the implementation.
Ability to participate in, lead, motivate and manage large cross functional teams in a matrix organization.
Work with device project manager to create and maintain detailed project plans, project estimates, resource plans and status reports.
Establishes and implements project management processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to quality standards and meet customer expectations.
Assists in budgeting activities.
Oversee the creation of various device deliverables – device roadmaps, device requirements, project plans, device reporting, status reports, etc.
Possesses strong planning capabilities, communications skills, presentation skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to effectively influence team members through consensus building and ability to get results through others.
Ability to manage multiple, large to very large-scale projects at one time.
Strong initiative and the ability to drive the device development initiatives to completion with limited supervision.
Qualifications
7 plus years of working knowledge of the wireless and wireline telecommunications industry.
Significant experience in managing and directing teams focused on device portfolio development activities.
4+ years of device certification experience.
2+ years of carrier level experience in managing and directing teams focused on device portfolio development activities.
Experience interfacing effectively with external vendors/partners and industry peers required.
Experience managing multiple concurrent device initiatives, programs and projects at one time.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
Demonstrated leadership skills
BS, BA or BE degree required
MBA is a plus
