Summary
This senior-level RF engineering position is responsible for complex RF planning (it's only complex if you don't know what you're doing), design, deployment, testing, optimization and continued operation of a Nortel/CDMA wireless network at the regional level (not metro).
In-detail
This is a senior-level individual contributor position working independently on CDMA RF engineering projects. It is likely that you'll provide guidance in the day-to-day work activities of RF Engineers or Associate Engineers, as directed by the RF Manager.
Your essential duties and responsibilities include:
1. Create RF plans and designs in support of CDMA wireless and Nortel network deployment.
2. Create system expansion plans of the network. Develop unique solutions with support of Staff RF department to support local market needs. Interact with local marketing and sales groups as necessary to support local business.
3. Conduct radio propagation modeling and prediction values to determine cell-site location.
4. Conduct cell-site/antenna design activities.
5. Assist in the development of standards and/or MOPs relating to the RF design and operation of the network.
6. Participate in field/site visits to assist in the approval of new cell sites and to optimize and integrate new sites into the network. Support field-engineering personnel to optimize system performance.
7. Ensure compliance with parent PCS network and engineering standards and guidelines.
Education and/or Experience:
Equivalent of a bachelor degree in electrical engineering or electronic engineering technology;
Professional Engineer license or advanced degree is desirable but not mandatory;
6+ years in wireless engineering with 4+ years in telecommunications/wireless.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong technical skills in wireless technology; excellent written and verbal skills to interact with internal customers and outside customers in the local markets. Moreover, you might be required to make presentations to both internal and external groups;
Your computer and sundry expertise should include:
MS Office Suite, MapInfo; excellent written and verbal skills; knowledge of Intermodulation Studies, AM Detuning issues, NEPA requirements and other regulatory issues; computerized RF planning tools such as Planet EV, Actix, Grayson, Nortel CACP, WatchMark/Prospect.
