RADIO FREQUENCY ENGINEER
PROFILE
Radio Frequency Engineer solid background in GSM Wireless Networks with a strong emphasis in Ericsson GSM RF parameters, procedures and equipment. Planning and optimization engineer with four years experience at Digicel Trinidad and Tobago working on improving quality, capacity and coverage in the network.
Self motivated individual, always seeking to learn more and develop oneself, good at solving problems and working in a team or as an individual.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
DIGICEL, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, PORT OF SPAIN
RF PLANNING AND OPTIMIZATION ENGINEER February, 2006 - Present
Responsibilities
Radio Network Planning for repeaters, microcells, rooftops and cell towers for coverage, capacity and quality issues.
Optimization of cells to meet KPIs for BSC and network level in RACCH success, SDCCH congestion, SDCCH drop, HO Success, TCH drop rate, TCH congestion, Paging Success, EDGE throughput and GPRS throughput.
Drive testing for new site installations to verify azimuths, tilts, installation of feeders (swapped feeders and swapped sectors) as well as comparative reporting and optimization of KPIs.
RF Emission testing to adhere to ICNIRP guideless 1998 for general public and occupational exposure to RF emissions.
Training of Junior RF Engineers in RF theory, procedures and network planning and optimization tools
General projects 2006 - Present
-GSM Prediction Model Tuning in TCPU for all local clutter types in Trinidad and Tobago
-TEMS Visualization reporting, network wide plots used for identifying areas with low call times, poor coverage, bad quality and dropped calls by phone type. Data used to target low traffic areas, show optimization progress over every 6 month period and provide feedback to handset department on performance of new model phones.
-Network Wide Neighbour Optimization using NCS, BSIC planning and BCCH planning
-TSC planning to test improvements of using IRC (Interference Rejection Combining) used to suppress uplink interference in Ericsson BTS.
-Evaluation of Ericsson features for purchase/deactivation Assignment to worse, Cell load sharing, HCS IN/OUT, Handover power boost, Power control BTS/MS, IRC and BTS power savings.
-BSC Consistency Checks, perform printout off all BSC and cell level parameters to ensure no irregularities. Only cells with optimization changes providing results remain with non default or inconsistent values.
-RF portion of the Proposal (WIMAX) Digicel Trinidad and Tobago 2009
Network Audit of cells, review of VSWR and DTF sweeps of RF feeder systems to identify faults with connectors, feeders and antennas.
-Network wide audit using Ericsson FFAX to identify sites with RF problems, use feeder RX levels to find swapped feeders, damaged CDUs, CXUs, DTRUs, feeder cables, cabinet cables and antennas.
-Automation of daily traffic PH reports, dropped call reports to provide detection of network problems using VBAexcel macros
-3G cell plan for launch of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago network
Key projects
(Frequency Planning for Quality Improvements/Capacity Expansions)
-BCCH Frequency Plan for all 850 and 1900 sites on TT network using TCPU ACP to improve SDCCH drop and EDGE performance.
-Manual 1/3 TCH plan for 1900 band Digicel TT Network to improve quality.
-Develop, test and implement various types of frequency plans to improve TCH drops, quality and expand capacity of sectors using limited spectrum. Frequency plans done common band, 1/3 TCH, 1/8 TCH frequency plan.
(Capacity Expansions)
-Capacity expansions for general network traffic and forecasted traffic for special events.
-Create cells in BSC with new frequency/maio plan, and carry out new IDB reconfiguration of site when necessary.
-Use live data to adjust layers and thresholds of sites around the event to balance traffic and reduce spc using R-PMO
-Test and implementation of using Ericsson RBS 2106 to house both 850 and 1900 sectors in a single cabinet.
-Design and implementation of RF system cascading an outdoor RBS2106 and micro RBS 2111 to increase capacity.
-Monthly reconfiguration of congested sites where capacity is available on underutilized sectors of the same site.
(Coverage Projects)
-Implementation of Ericsson expander solution using TCC, MHGA, 4-Way RX diversity and TMA.
-Test and implement Extended Range for offshore oil rigs carry traffic beyond 35km to 121km.
-Implement and test of uplink TMA in cells
-Rollout of at least 5 new sites yearly
-Planning and evaluation of hot spot solutions of repeaters/microcells for outdoor and indoor purposes
