BSS Network System Design Engineer Jobs

• Understanding of BSS architecture.

• Understands how various BSS elements (Ericsson, Nortel, Nokia, Siemens and IPAcess) are integrated into the local network.

• Able to build the node in Granite and map out each path per engineering.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to SS7 (to include path diversity).

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to BITS clock (to include path diversity).

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to DSX1/FDP and to the DACS (to include path diversity).

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity via A links to parent NSS element (who determines the number of required A link trunks, who is responsible for trunk x-connects, who defines the trunks in both BSS and NSS nodes and who is responsible for test/turn-up the trunks).

• Able to assign responsibilities necessary for BSS reparenting to balance loads between NSS elements.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to the BTS network to include any needed BTS rehomes for load balancing between BSS/NSS elements.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to OSS/NMS network for TCP/IP network connectivity.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to TTY node.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to SGSN / ATM.

• Identify / assign BSS connectivity to AMS (E911 connections via TDOA) both directly (Ericsson semi-permanent connections) or indirectly through 3/0 or 1/0 DCS system.

• Can identify how a new BSS element impacts the MTSO as follows: Identify impact on DCS port availability.

• Identify impact on DSX1 or FDP port availability.

• Identify impact on NSS port availability.

• Identify impact on environmental systems (additional HVAC).

• Identify impact on floor space.

• Identify impact on power systems (BDFB, PDF (Ericsson) battery, generator expansions).

• Identify impact on BITS clock.

• Identify impact on TTY node.

• Identify impact on corporate nodes (SGSN, SS7, ATM, etc).
