Apple releases iOS4.0.1 for iPhone 3G/3GS & iPhone 4-report

Apple Inc on Thursday released iOS4.0.1 to update the signal change, at a point about 24 hours before its surprising iPhone 4 press conference on Friday., according to a report from Macworld.
The software "improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display", the report said.

Apple Inc published a letter to users earlier this month, admitting it had used a "totally wrong" formula tocalculate signal strength.

"For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars." the letter said.

Apple promised to issue a free software update in coming weeks adopting a formula recommended by AT&T Inc, the exclusive US provider for iPhone. The software update will be available for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

iOS 4.0.1 is available now in iTunes, and users can download and update to it by connecting iPhone to Mac or PC and clicking "Check for Updates" in the device summary screen in iTunes.
