A BGR source says that Motorola is working on two next-generation high-end smartphones, including the Motorola Etna for Verizon Wireless and Motorola Olympus for AT&T. The Motorola Etna will be compatible with Verizon Wireless' LTE network, and we guess the front-facing camera is a given then. The Motorola Etna will sport NVIDIA's new Tegra 2 chipset, just like the Motorola Olympus and the LG Optimus Star. LG recently described the Tegra 2 chipset as follows: "The NVIDIA Tegra 2 offers the only ultra-low power NVIDIA GeForce GPU, 1080p HD mobile video processor and a dual-core CPU. Taking full advantage of the two speedy 1GHz processors sharing the workload in Tegra 2, users are promised up to 2x faster Web browsing and up to 5x faster gaming performance over the first-generation." Verizon Wireless recently said that the carrier plans to release the first LTE smartphone in February 2011. There's a good chance that the Motorola Etna is that smartphone, as the Droid X is planned to be discontinued in March. The upcoming Incredible HD is most likely being prepared for an April release. The Motorola Etna will ship with Android Gingerbread, which is believed to make its debut on the Nexus S later this year. Interestingly, the Motorola Olympus for AT&T could possibly be the first U.S. carrier smartphone to offer Android Gingerbread, as BGR's source says it could arrive as early as in January. Earlier this year, AT&T promised to release a new high-end all-touch smartphone powered by Android. We guess that means AT&T has had Gingerbread in sight for quite a while, and they haven't seemed too worry about the future ever since. << back to 4G/LTE category Discuss Telecom wireless news in 4G/LTE category The Motorola Etna could be Verizon Wireless' first LTE smartphone to be released in February/March. on 3G Wireless Jobs Forums
