Nokia Siemens to open global center in Russia

Nokia Siemens Networks says it will open its first global network operations center in Russia next year to help regional telecoms operators improve their services.

Nokia Siemens said Wednesday that it will "make a significant investment" in the project near Moscow over five years, but gave no figures. Construction will begin later this year.

It will be the Finnish-German company's fourth such center, similar to two in India and one in Portugal that support more than 380 million subscribers worldwide.

Nokia Siemens Networks -- a joint venture between Finland's Nokia Corp. and Siemens AG of Germany -- is based in Espoo just outside Helsinki. It is the world's second biggest networks manufacturer after L.M. Ericsson of Sweden.
