Samsung Says Epic 4G GPS Works Fine

I’m starting to think that Sprint customers are really going to get the best shake with the Samsung Epic 4G. Not only is it the only announced variant of the Galaxy S phone that has the physical keyboard, but it’s also the only one with 4G connectivity. Now, it’ll be the only one in the US apparently without GPS issues.
For those who missed the story, owners of the Samsung Captivate (on AT&T) and Samsung Vibrant (on T-Mobile) are reporting that the GPS functionality of their phones is poor. This is sort of a big story as the Galaxy S phones were supposed to be Samsung’s big entry into the Android space and the phones are equipped with some of the fastest hardware to be found on any smartphone.

Samsung acknowledged the phone has issues. And, unfortunately for the Galaxy S owners on AT&T and T-Mobile, a update is coming in September (which might as well be a year in internet tech blog time). But thankfully, Sprint’s Epic 4G will be sans GPS issues. Sprint obviously paid more for the working GPS model.

The Samsung Fascinate is still noticeably absent. That was set to be the Galaxy S variant headed to Verizon. While it was announced at the same time as the other Galaxy S phones for the US, Verizon and Samsung have been quiet on the phone.

You can imagine that with the Droid X and Droid 2 coming this summer, Verizon wants to keep all the focus on those two Verizon-exclusive phones rather than an Android phone that’s coming to every other carrier this summer.
