Details Purpose of Role:

Own the roadmap for the nanoGSM product line. Contribute/coordinate specifications and work with release managers to schedule delivery. Manage product enhancement and obsolescence. Work with Sales to gather inputs and support technical sales activities. Maintain relationships with key accounts.

Dimensions of Role:

No direct reports, but considerable responsibility for the optimum definition of a product line valued at £20M revenue over the next 2 years.

Key Accountabilities:

Measure of Success:


Management of nanoGSM product line: specifications and roadmap. Maintain communications with key customers

Collate & interpret customer inputs

Initiate Product Features

Initiatiate Feature Definitions

Work with System Engineering on Feature Definitions

Negotiate System Release content with Eng/Ops/Sales

Manage product/sub-system obsolescence issues

Communicate with Sales – advance features, upgrade issues

Stable release plan


Sales support & Key Customer Accounts– customer questions, visits, RFIs

Support Pre-Sales meetings as tech authority

Answer customer/sales tech questions

Organise/support RFI/RFQ production

Maintain key customer/partner relationships with regular meetings, including:

* TM-Int

Meet agreed deadlines for RFI responses & customer queries


Supporting other product managers, particularly in terms of specialist knowledge

Positive peer feedback based on specification input and reviews


Marketing support, including conferences & exhibitions


Occasional other confs/shows

Occasional conference presentations

Allocate sufficient time to support events

Key Relationships:

System Architect & team; Sales team – especially Tech Sales; Operations; Marketing; Engineering Release Managers; Key customers

Key Challenges:

Maintaining a stable overall product strategy while accommodating a degree of flexibility to respond to changing customer requirements. Careful management of customer variations to exploit opportunities but without distracting from mainline development or causing undue increase to ongoing support load.

Maintaining a large number of internal and external relationships with different interests and perspectives.

Must be willing to travel.

Skill requirements:

Good technical degree, will probably have worked in new product development.

Broad understanding of GSM mobile networks and IP, particularly access networks.

Experience in customer-facing roles essential, ideally product management but Sales Engineers, Customer Support or Programme Management background may be suitable.
