Liaise regularly with Engineering and business teams in communications and planning forums.
Schedule the team for On-Call coverage, Vacation, and Emergency Escalation call-ups. Provide backup to operation specialists on your team and to regional counterparts upon escalation.
Work with regional team leads for continuous operations issue and ticket request transfers as well as change implementations for global consistency initiated by yourself for Americas or implementing changes for EMEA or Asia Pacific regions.
Ensure consistency of the BlackBerry server plant across the Americas, from application software services, BlackBerry Enterprise Server services, Windows Operating System configuration, and SQL services.
Ensure monitoring systems and agents are in continuous operations for all BES plants in the Americas region.
Control and ensure security access for operations and audit is consistent in the Americas and cross regions for counterpart teams. Ensure delegated access and BES Manager tools are issued and maintained for delegated system administration teams.
Work with India offshore teams to make sure regular, routine, and bulk transactions are scheduled, executed, and supported on operational level defined thresholds.
Manage a core team of Americas BlackBerry analysts for daily, weekly, and personnel related tasks including time and expense management.
Report regularly to the Global Groupware Operations manager for activities in space, status of engineering projects, and team related management activities.
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly server health checks and performance monitoring.
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly server capacity analysis and best practice health maintenance activities for BlackBerry Enterprise Server and management toolsets. Monitor server resources, trending results for capacity planning purposes.
Perform production service requests, including moves/adds/changes, database restores, and service consultations.
Create best practice reporting for on demand and regular periodic BES populations.
Establish and delivery capacity and performance baselines monthly and initiate capacity expansions/contractions/decommissions at agreed upon growth points with the business and engineering teams.
Represent operational service teams at BlackBerry service management and planning meetings.
Participate in virtual teams for project support, knowledge transfer, and rollout of new capabilities, expansion, and reconfiguration of the BlackBerry service.
Monitor incident request queues for escalation requests for provisioning and service activations as well as terminations and roll offs.
Plan and execute change and release management for routine security and fix items as well as planned enhancements, upgrades, expansions, and policy changes for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server environment.
Execute incident and problem resolution for BlackBerry line of business user escalations.
Lead vendor escalation with Research In Motion DART teams and own incident resolution through to closure
Troubleshoot server outages and performs in-depth root cause analysis. Work with CTS BlackBerry Engineering in level 3 and 4 escalations, root cause analysis determination, as well as for post mortem remediation.
Support operating system components, including firmware, drivers, patches, anti-virus, security, and remote access.
Support promotion to production of all new BES applications and redesigns through standardized process.
Provide in-depth product knowledge, vendor interface and extensive system engineering capabilities to address and resolve issues.
Implement process and service improvements, coordinating all efforts through build, and operate phases.
Enforce corporate data protection policies, through IT Risk certifications and standardized access.
Provide Business Continuity support for the Groupware service by activation and confirmed functionality, monitoring, and problem diagnosis.
Provide 24x7 on-call support coverage for Americas region during the work week and execute change releases during production windows on weekends as necessary.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience with managing, operating, automating, and supporting BlackBerry infrastructure in a large messaging and collaboration environment (75K+ user base) required.
Experience leading a team of operations specialists supporting a mobile messaging environment.
Expert-level operating system knowledge on one or more platforms (Windows, 2000, 2003, and 2008r) required.
Expert knowledge of Exchange (2000, 2003, and 2007) required. Notes and Domino server (versions 6 and 7), desired.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft 2007 collaboration products, including Exchange, SharePoint, Office Communication Services, and SQL required.
Knowledge of other Domino related products such as QuickPlace, Notrix, LEI, Sametime) desirable.
Microsoft command script, visual basic scripting, and PowerShell scripting a plus.
Microsoft SharePoint customization/development a plus.
Strong knowledge of server hardware, including IBM, Dell, and HP required.
General knowledge of Mainframe, Network, Midrange and LAN/Desktop technologies and their interaction in a complex production environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills, and team skills.
Self motivated requiring minimal supervision.
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience. MCSE, CLP, and related certifications are a plus
