Team Description & Purpose of Role
The Voice Capacity and Mediation Lead Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting and maintaining the Voice Capacity management and Mediation efforts across the company Voice platforms. This individual will maintain and improve our current Voice capacity tracking systems and manage, maintain, and improve our current CDR & Log collections, consolidation, correlation, presentation, and re-conciliation efforts. This effort includes complex file transfers text based log processing, advanced scripting and file manipulation and the maintenance/administration of the underlying systems. Additionally, this position will maintain technical proficiency across the voice platforms and serve as an out of hours escalation point for advance voice issues and 3rd Line Voice support.
Job Responsibilities
Work in the Operations Support facility on a shift basis as required.
Monitor, maintain, and support existing capacity measurement systems.
Monitor, manage, and maintain existing CDR/Log mediation systems
Monitor, manage, and maintain existing CDR/Log consolidation and presentation systems
Carry out 3rd line diagnostics on equipment across the Voice network
Outside of business hours to act as escalation point of contact for senior engineering issues.
Carry out vendor and supplier contact and escalation for fault resolution.
Support Operations staff with diagnostics and maintenance activity.
Escalation of unresolved customer or network tickets
Liaise with customer, vendors, and other third parties to ensure fault progression.
Propose design improvements and changes to enhance services.
Experience Required
Minimum 3 years experience in Telecommunications with at least 1 years experience working in a Network Operations centre.
Use of network management tools such as Preside, Netcool or SMARTS.
Conversant with telecommunications operational processes and procedures.
Technical understanding of Voice, SDH transmission and DWDM services.
In Depth understanding of VOIP principles and of the components of a VOIP network.
In Depth understanding of signalling protocols SS7 Variants, Q.931,. Knowledge of SIP and H.323 advantageous
In Depth understanding of Voice CDRs
Understanding of UNIX and derivatives such as Solaris and Linux
Knowledge of IP services
Knowledge of Linux Scripting (BASH, Perl, PHP, Java, etc)
Experience of working in a large established Operations environment with a large Telco essential.
Experienced user of Microsoft Office applications.
Shift working experience
Experience of analysing CDR and call/signalling trace information.
Proven trouble shooting ability on Voice switching and transmission equipment.
Experience of working within UNIX based operating systems and familiar with basic UNIX commands
*Nix file manipulation utilities (SED, AWK, Grep, etc)
Database experience (SQL, MySQL, etc)
Sonus and Genband Softswitch experience a must
Experience with Carrier class IP and Transmission technologies
Voice mediation and CDR experience
Person Specification
