POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Network Service Architect is responsible for analyzing and documenting the requirements of mission critical applications running on the global network infrastructure, and handing off those requirements to the network engineering teams for implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidates responsibilities will include

Act as a bridge between software and network groups, ensuring communication lines remain open and the network is primed to support new applications
Provide feedback to software development to ensure applications are developed to take full advantage of the networks capabilities
Work closely with network architects, application developers, and systems engineers to diagnose interaction issues between the network and application
Be involve in performance profiling of new applications
Utilize tools such as OPNET, Niksun, eHealth, and NetQoS to help understand communication flows and the impact various typical network impairments (latency, packet loss) could have on the application
Interface with application development teams to ensure network requirements are fully documented and network aspects are fully betted (e.g., failover, latency)
Perform detailed analysis of application flows and their network impact, and leverage tools (e.g., OPNET) to identify and diagnose application performance issues
Understand fully the capabilities and standards of the network infrastructure, and facilitate the design and testing required to augment those capabilities
Provide knowledge transfers to other data network members on applications the network will support, and ensure clean handoffs to Eng / Ops teams for deployment
Be a central point of contact for applications development teams into the data network organization, ensuring communication lines are open


ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Post secondary education in Information Technology related field, or equivalent experience in conjunction with industry certification (Cisco certifications preferred)
Minimum 7 years of data network experience in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment, 3 of which working in a design / architectural capacity
Possess strong technical leadership that will be demonstrated consistently within the team, the company, and through interaction with our vendors and partners
Experience with equipment from vendors such as Cisco and F5, and mapping their capabilities to application needs
In-depth LAN and WAN knowledge, and their respective Layer-2 and Layer-3 protocols (Rapid-PVST, HSRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, POS, etc.)
Extensive knowledge of firewall, load balancing, and general network security concepts (IDS / IPS, DDoS mitigation, NAC)
Experience determining network requirements for mission-critical distributed applications, including their Disaster Recovery considerations
Comprehensive understanding of MPLS and Multicast, including Multicast within a mVPN experience working on a core (P / PE) backbone preferred
Experience gathering and analyzing data with a network sniffer, and utilizing application performance analysis tools such as OPNET ACE
Strong and effective interpersonal skills comfortable delivering presentations to groups proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) excellent documentation skills
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team ability to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities to meet business goals
Background in ITIL, ISO, CISSP, project management, or similar industry frameworks / methodologies considered an asset
