BSS Design Engineer - Paddington, London - £36k to £40k
Overview
Our customers Railway Communications System Programme incorporates both fixed (FTN) and mobile (GSM-R) communications, and is a part of a £multi-million investment to deliver a modern, more efficient railway. The aim is to implement GSM-R across the rail network ? providing a national system of secure driver-to-signaller communications.
Brief Vacancy Description
Our task is to keep Britain\'s railways fit for the 21st Century and beyond. It\'s a massive challenge. And it means constantly investing, developing and improving. Currently, we\'re working on one of the biggest projects that this industry has ever seen: the national digital radio & fibre network programme, incorporating both Fixed Telecoms Networks (FTN) and Global System for Mobile - Railways (GSM-R). It\'s up to us to transform rail telecoms capability with these systems. Our goal is to have the majority of the work completed by 2012. Our budget is over £1.7bn.
To make it happen, it\'s crucial to this that we have the most talented and committed of engineers. This is your chance to drive forward not only the biggest project in the industry, but also the other landmark projects; such as Crossrail and Thameslink, which are relying on its completion.
This postholder will be responsible to the Senior Radio Design Engineer for the detailed design of the BSS, including validation and maintenance of the design and will be responsible for providing verification that the delivered system meets the design.
Detailed External Job Description
Providing an invaluable support to the Senior Radio Design Engineer, you\'ll be involved in the detailed design of the BSS, including feeder, antenna, TRX, optimisation, parameter changes and radio subsystem verification for each BTS site. You\'ll need detailed knowledge of this area of mobile telecoms. You\'ll also be responsible for testing against the design, and making sure everything works as efficiently as possible.
The tunnels and BSS Design Team consists of one Senior Radio Design Engineer, one permanent tunnel engineer and two permanent BSS Engineers. The overall responsibility of the team is to ensure that the GSM-R Network is designed to the optimal level and meets the EIRENE specifications, by correctly designing tunnel solutions and analysing data collected on RSV runs and raising relevant changes. The Network cannot be brought live if it does not meet acceptable design criteria on the Coverage tests /Radio Sub-System Verification (RSV) runs. Also responsible for Cell Planning guidelines/Processes and revising as appropriate. Considered to be subject matter experts.
