Position Duties: Work within a team that provides on-site technical support for 1600+ Seattle Police Department employees using mobile data computers in Police vehicles, desktop computers and associated peripherals in a 7X24 support environment. Perform hardware and software installations and respond to user service requests via radio, telephone, pager, e-mail and in-person support. Support IP connectivity for mobile computers using wireless CDMA/EVDO data transmissions. Coordinate work with other technical support groups. Create technical documentation and user guides. Run diagnostic tests on ruggedized computers. Repair, modify, upgrade and perform maintenance on PC based computers. Install operating systems, test configurations, test application software, and make recommendations on software, hardware and system configurations. Create, test and support *base* computer images for mass distribution. Log service issues in a service issue tracking application.

Required Qualifications: The equivalent of an Associate degree in Computer Science or a related field. Two years of experience in computer support, repair, troubleshooting and customer service including: Experience providing onsite technical support to end-users on both hardware and software issues. Experience supporting Microsoft operating systems including Windows XP and Windows 2000. Experience supporting desktop applications including Microsoft Office and GroupWise. Experience with one or more of the following: Desktop computer remote control software, computer imaging software, Microsoft Scripting Language, creation of automated batch files and creation of software installation packages. Experience with printers and common peripherals in a LAN / WAN environment and knowledge of IP network topology and problem resolution. Experience with computer electronics and wiring. Must be willing to work varied hours and participate in mandatory standby rotation. Must be willing to carry a pager and cell phone. This position may be required to work a non-standard schedule of four ten-hour shifts per week, which would include one weekend day. Day and evening shift selection is based on seniority. Washington State Driver*s License and able to lift 50 pounds. Team skills a must. Pass a Seattle Police Department background investigation.

Desired Qualification: Computer certifications including A+ Certification and Microsoft MCPs. Vendor hardware certifications. Microsoft SMS use and support. Experience with automotive electronics and wiring. Experience with Linux software installation and support. Experience with terminal emulation software. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
