RF Engineer is responsible for performing moderately complex RF engineering activities supporting the design, development and optimisation of a wireless network. Performing radio propagation modelling and prediction to determine cell site location, determining equipment and power configurations, forecasting channel capacity requirements, planning and optimising system traffic and developing design standards to ensure system quality.
·May provide some training assistance to lower level engineers.
·Performs engineering functions related to interconnect equipment and facilities, signalling systems, switches and traffic.
·Responsible for independently performing professional engineering assignments in functional area, which involves the planning, evaluation and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
·Perform Radio propagation modelling and prediction to determine cell site locations.
·Perform site surveys and support deployment activities of new sites.
·Recommend site configuration including antenna placements, heights, down tilt etc.
·Analyse and measure interference and provide recommendations to eliminate and/or reduce.
·Test and evaluate RAN equipment vendors and manufacturer\'s RF performance and create a technical report and recommendation.
·Execute network performance measurement including the collection, analysis, plotting, and documentation and archiving of test data.
·Use statistical data from the various subsystems in the network to ensure that coverage design and network performance objectives are met.
·Make approved changes to Radio Access network hardware and data fill parameters and maintain comprehensive documentation of all changes to these parameters.
·Experience with UMTS, EV-DO, GPRS/EDGE, TD-CDMA, WiFi, WiMAX and any Broadband Wireless Technology is a plus.
·Strong technical understanding of general wireless concepts and wireless protocols.
·Advanced understanding of link budget, frequency planning and capacity planning
·Ability to incorporate and analyse CW tests to create a model for a specific market.
·Experienced working in a team environment to resolve issues relating to deployment of sites (e.g working with vendors, tower owners, contractors and site development).
·Advanced computer skills and experience in propagation modelling/designing, GIS applications and MS Office applications.
·Advanced understandings of data fill and network operation principles.
·Demonstrated ability to resolve RF performance issues.
·Ability to operate field test equipment, such as spectrum analysers, test transmitters, VSWR tools and other pertinent field test equipment.
·Excellent interpersonal skills, written skills, and oral presentation skills.
·Valid driver\'s license and good driving record.
Excellent customer interaction skills; Flexible to work under aggressive project time-lines; Willingness to travel and open to work overtime; Proficient with comprehensive planning and optimisation tools; Knowledge of GIS package MapInfo; Proficient in Microsoft Office; Understanding of Microsoft Outlook and the Internet; Good verbal and written communication skills
The employee will likely be placed in a project office while spending a significant portion of his/her time working at cellular sites. Project offices and cellular sites are typically informal and short on amenities. The work environment characteristics are representative of those of an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/cellular site situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer via standard input devices such as using a keyboard and reading information on a monitor.
